IPL Photo-Rejuvenation
Intense Pulsed Light effectively treats sun damage, particularly redness and blotchy pigmentation. It is carried out in the comfort and safety of our office by a highly skilled nurse, under the supervision of an experienced Dermatologist. IPL does not disrupt the skin surface, so there is no hiding ('down-time') afterwards.
The diagram below illustrates how IPL photo rejuvenation targets red and brown blemishes associated with sun damage.

with repeated treatments, skin texture can be improved. After multiple sessions, some patients report a decrease in pore size and very fine wrinkles.

Are there any restrictions on IPL treatment?
You should not have a tan at the time of treatment. IPL is not recommended for insulin dependent diabetics since wound-healing is compromised in these individuals. One should keep in mind that this technique is not effective for treatment of deeper wrinkles and sagging. The latter are better treated with CO2 laser resurfacing or traditional surgical techniques.
What other treatments complement IPL Photorejuvenation?
Superficial chemical peels (AHA glycolic acid or salicylic acid) can improve IPL results by about 15%. Peels done a week before each IPL session strip off some superficial skin cells and thus allow better penetration of IPL.
